Many believe that women do not get a fair shake when it comes to government contracts in business. Perhaps this is why many women have gotten together in entrepreneurial women’s groups, to work together towards the common cause of profits and sustainable businesses. Not long ago, I was discussing this with a female entrepreneur over a cup of coffee at Starbucks. We both laughed when we read an article in the LA times while we were sitting and talking about how she might go about marketing or business locally.

I’m not an avid Stephen King fan but I’m settling comfortably into “11/22/63.” I received it for Christmas along with Murakami’s “1Q84.” Two lengthy tomes with numerical titles … Hmmm. I’ll be disappearing from the present reality until spring if I return at all. Happy New Year!

I find the library’s policy very odd. Is this common? Our library enthusiastically distributes library cards to small kids. Parents, or even the librarian can fill out the form if the kids can’t. There is even a special “my first library card” for little ones. Making kids feel like there is a barrier to reading is silly. We should all do what we can to help kids feel like reading is accessible and rich and wonderful.

I see J K Rowling has finally separated from her (very) long term literary agent, Chris Little. Can this be related to her bypassing the traditional publishing industry and releasing books in electronic format direct from her new Harry Potter web site, Pottermore? It seems the magical relationship couldn’t survive the harsh daylight of commercialism… sending us back to the real world with a bump.

The story of the Titanic is so interesting to me. In my class we have to do a big project about it. It’s a pain, yes, but I don’t mind because I’m so captured by the subject. The fact that so many people had to die pains me, however, even though I hadn’t witnessed it first-hand.
I absolutely loved the 1997 film, but I’d love it even more if it were less story and MORE fact! Yes, the story itself was moving and romantic, but just by watching it I couldn’t gather a whole lot about the ship itself.

Wow! I have a black and white tuxedo kitty also named Missy. But,gladly for me she’s not missing. She’s my best friend,has extra toes that she uses as thumbs and follow’s me around the farm like a puppy. If I lost her I would be crushed beyond repair.
