Feb. 28
The Hudson Children’s library will host a “School’s Out Movie” at 2 p.m. in the Flood Family Meeting Room. The movie features Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as a mother and daughter who switch bodies for one freaky day. It is rated PG. Popcorn and beverages will be served. Feb. 28
The Hudson City School District’s textbook adoption procedure includes community input. The input format was developed to encourage participation from parents and community members. All textbooks under consideration for adoption will be available for preview on Feb. 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the high school media center. In the replacement cycle at the high school there will be adoption for health, pre-calculus, Spanish, business electives, physical science and AP biology. The Hudson Board of Education is expected to take action on the textbooks at a June meeting.
March 1
Memory specialist Kathryn Kilpatrick returns to the Hudson Library & Historical Society at 7 p.m. for “Are you Multitasking or Task Switching?” Join her for a lively discussion about what happens when you choose to multitask, how it can impact your life, and ways to maximize your memory potential and quality of life.
A national motivational speaker providing information on memory fitness and successful aging, Kilpatrick is dedicated to meeting the needs of a wide variety of people of all ages looking for ways to enhance their memory skills as they balance the many aspects of their busy lives, personally and professionally. She has four decades of experience working with older adults as a speech and language pathologist and is the author of more than 30 books, videos and therapy guides.

Hudson families can participate in Hudson Family Night: Ready, Set, Relax. The night is dedicated to relaxing and spending time as a family without the pressures of homework, after-school or evening activities.
This evening is sponsored by Community First, a local non-profit organization that promotes positive youth development and is based on developing assets in youth by uniting individuals, organizations and our schools in an effort to nurture competent, caring and responsible children and adolescents. Ready, Set, Relax is endorsed by the Hudson City Schools, many youth activity groups and is made possible through a grant from the Hudson Community Foundation.
March 4 through 12
The Merchants of Hudson are teaming up with Hudson Community First to host a city-wide International Festival. More than 30 businesses throughout Hudson have already signed on to represent individual countries with store decorations, music, flags, maps, interesting facts and quizzes about their country.
The event will kick off March 4 with an International Food & Spirits Event from 6 to 9 p.m. at participating businesses. Passports will be distributed, and people of all ages are invited to travel around the world right here in Hudson during this event.
An International Dance Festival will take place at the new home of Young Actors’ Studio, 86 Owen Brown St., on March 12, where local Irish, Italian and African dance troupes will perform. March 5
Hudson PTO’s 54th Annual Pancake Breakfast will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Hudson High School Commons, 2500 Hudson-Aurora Road. Enjoy Perkins pancakes, Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and sausage patties provided by Hudson’s Restaurant. Gluten free/allergy free alternatives are available.
Enjoy musical entertainment, the art show and children’s games, plus 50/50 raffle tickets will be available and there will also be prize baskets.
Presale tickets ($6/adult & $4.50/child) are available at The Learned Owl and Acme or tickets are available at the door with cash, check or credit card ($7/adult & $5/child). All proceeds from the Pancake Breakfast, PTO’s largest fundraising event, are given back to the Hudson City Schools as grants and scholarships.

March 12
The Hudson Satellite Group of NIN (Newborns in Need, Inc.) will host its monthly workday at the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The group will be working on kangaroo slings, burp cloths, crib sheets and booties and hats. There is a need for help cutting fabric, sewing, stuffing polyfill, pressing, knitting and crocheting. Women and men are invited. Lunch and beverages are provided.
April 4
Graduating seniors are invited to apply for one of five $1,000 scholarships that will be awarded by the Hudson PTO. Applications are available at www.HudsonPTO.org. The deadline for completed applications is April 4, and winners will be notified the last week of April. Additionally, the winners will be invited to attend the PTO spring luncheon, to ride on the PTO Memorial Day Parade float, and will be honored at the senior awards assembly on May 23. The winning selections will be based on a written essay, GPA, community involvement and volunteer activities.
May 6
The Run for the Orphans will be May 6. In its fourth year, the run benefits orphanages in Zambia, Honduras and Ghana, as well as Berea Children’s Home.
The 5K race and a new 10K trail run through Hudson Springs Park begin and end at Seton Catholic School. The 5K and 10K runs are preceded by a 1-mile run for children 10 and under. Men and women’s trophies are awarded by age categories.
Runners can indicate the orphanage they would like to sponsor when they register at active.com. All the profits from the run go directly to assist children in locally funded third world orphanages and the Berea Children’s Home.
Thursdays
A running and walking group meets at the First Congregational Church of Hudson, 47 Aurora St., on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. Babysitting is available. All levels are welcome.

Donations sought
Community First partnered with the Hudson park board and high school students from Western Reserve Academy and Hudson High School’s business clubs to brainstorm and design a teen-friendly, family-oriented park on Veterans Way.
Community First is selling engraved bricks to help raise the monies needed to fund the new park.
Many brick sizes are available: $2,500 center court sponsor 16-by-16-inch bricks will surround the new basketball courts; $1,000 16-by-16-inch bricks will feature 40 developmental assets and be placed in an amphitheater type seating area; and $250 8-by-12-inch bricks are available to purchase as a family brick. Spring season
The Laurel Lake Encore Chorale is welcoming new and returning members for its Spring 2011 season. Rehearsals are Tuesdays at 3 p.m. at Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Drive.
Singers may join any time.
There is no audition for membership in this 50-voice chorus, and participation is free and open to the public. Choir members may sit or stand for performances.
Join this large, enthusiastic group of singers age 55 and older who meet weekly at Laurel Lake to explore their voices and learn challenging and fun choral repertoire under the direction of Donna Anderson.

Gloria Dei Lutheran Preschool is accepting applications for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year. Openings are available in both the 3-year-old and 4-year-old classes with choice of morning or afternoon sessions. Art for Kids at the Peninsula Art Academy — adventures in glass fusing, clay building, drawing, painting, tye-dye, weaving, soap making and more — are available throughout the week. Learn about color theory, art history or the fiber arts, and take a nature walk in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Most Art for Kids programs are for ages 6 and up, including Afternoon Art for Kids, Homeschool Art for Kids, and Saturday Art for Kids Programs.
