Oct. 27

The Hudson High School Fall Orchestra Concert, directed by Roberto Iriarte, will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Hudson High School Auditorium. Holiday greenery will be available to order to support the Chamber Orchestra’s trip to Italy in July 2010. Through Oct. 30

The Hudson High School Chamber Orchestra Holiday Greenery Fundraiser will take place through the end of October. All proceeds benefit the Chamber Orchestra’s trip to Italy in July 2010 to participate in the International Festival of Youth Orchestra Performance and the Estate Musicale Romana Festival. Two varieties of high quality, hand-tied holiday greenery are available from M&M Wintergreens, a local Cleveland wholesaler. Oct. 31

The Learned Owl Book Shop, 204 N. Main St., is hosting a breakfast and story time for children with the costumed character, Cat in the Hat. There will be green eggs and ham (and also doughnuts for the timid). Please call 330-653-2252 to register or for more information.

Nov. 1

The Fourth Annual What’s Cooking? Tasting Tour, sponsored by The Women’s Guild of St. Mary Parish, is slated from Noon to 4 p.m. in six beautifully appointed homes with six local chefs stationed in each kitchen. Homes in Deer Hollow, Canterbury on the Lakes, Westin Manor, Hines Hill and Middleton Roads will showcase the talents of chefs from Bistro on Main, Blue Canyon, Downtown 140, North End Market, Reserve Inn and Vue. Tickets are $45 and will be available at The Learned Owl and Acme Fresh Market the first week in September. This is an advance-ticket-only event, and no tickets will be sold on the day of the tour.

Nov. 2 through 21

FastFrame will kick off the holiday season with a local artist show for Susan Mencini. Mencini, a member of Cuyahoga Valley Art Center, Hudson Society of Artists and Ohio Watercolor Society, will exhibit her most recent still lifes, featuring acrylic paints with a transparent watercolor application. FastFrame, located at 89 First St. (upstairs from Gymboree), will host an artist reception on Nov. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information, call 330-653-3094.

Through Nov. 4

The Hudson High School Music Association will sponsor its annual fruit fundraising sale. High school music students will sell fruit, candy and cheesecakes. Delivery is scheduled for Dec. 5. For more information, contact Joan Byers at 330-655-5007.

Nov. 3 to 7

The annual book fair sponsored by Hudson League for Service can be found at East Woods School in the Blue Gym. The hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 3, 4, and 5. The book fair is open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 6, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 7. In conjunction with the book fair, The Learned Owl will donate 20 percent of any sales from Nov. 3 through 7 when the “book fair” is mentioned.

“One for Books,” a special program, will collect loose change and dollars at the Book Fair. The funds will be used to buy books for local students, teachers and schools in need. Scholastic Books will match the monetary donations and give those books to a national organization for children and youth.

Families are invited to bring their children to meet Clifford, the Big Red Dog on Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to noon. There will also be crafts, games and prizes.

Funds raised at the book fair are disbursed in April each year to many worthwhile projects including the media centers at Hudson schools and the annual scholarship award.

Nov. 7

Terry Bramble, silhouette artist, will visit the Learned Owl Book Shop (204 N Main St, Hudson) from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Bramble is known for his portraits of children, as well as for family groups and pet portraits. Individual portraits are available for twenty dollars with any additional fifteen dollar purchase from the book store. Sittings for silhouettes take about 30 minutes. Mr. Bramble regrets that he cannot take portraits of children under 3 years of age. To make reservations for a sitting, or for more information, call the Learned Owl Book Shop at 330-653-2252.

Nov. 9

The November meeting of the MOMS (MOMS Offering Moms Support) Club of Hudson will feature Jodie Luidhardt, a registered dietitian, from The Nutrition Outreach Program, through Kent State University. MOMS Club is an international nonprofit support group specifically for mothers who have chosen to stay home with their children. Nov. 14

The 1st annual Festival of Wines at historic Case-Barlow Farm will take place at 7 p.m. David McNees, a Case-Barlow Farm Board Member, will lead discussion of the North End Market wines.

Cooking has been the avocation of board member Philip Leiter, for nearly 30 years. Leiter learned the basics of the culinary arts from two of the area’s finest: most notable at the former Inn at Turner’s Mill, under the tutelage of then Executive Chef, Gary Bissette and Shawn Monday, executive chef/co-owner of Downtown 140. All of the courses to be served at this Festival of Wines have been researched for regional authenticity, and where possible, ingredients will be from the Case-Barlow Farm heirloom garden. Selected wines will available to order.

This informative holiday gathering will be limited to 50 in order to present the wines in various intimate settings throughout the historical house. Donations begin at $75 per person with program recognition beginning at $100. Call 330-656-3123 for reservations and information.

Nov. 22

The Hudson community and all families with school-age children are invited to an open house at Seton Catholic School from 2 to 4 p.m. Meet faculty, visit the classrooms and tour the building. Seton is an independent, regional Catholic school serving families from 20 communities. Full-day kindergarten through 8th grade, one campus schedule for all students (8:40 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.), and an extended day program (7:00 a.m. to 6 p.m.) are available. Dec. 5

Hudson Community First is sponsoring the 3rd annual holiday gift shoppe and secret Santa work shop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hudson Middle School, 77 N. Oviatt St. The holiday gift shoppe is a children’s shopping event that has been a longtime favorite of Hudson’s youth. Escorted children shop for fun, reasonably-priced gifts for their friends and family while the waiting adults shop our fun and eclectic vendor area. You’ll find hand-made jewelry, beaded serving pieces, paper crafts, toys, handcrafted teddy bears, chocolates, women’s accessories, children’s books, as well as local support from many home-based businesses. Applications are still being accepted for vendors for this event and inquiries may be forwarded to Patty Ulmer at soularsisters@aol.com.

Dec. 5
