Aug. 30

The Hudson Society of Artists presents its 30th Annual Art on the Green from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the South Green in Hudson (corner of State Routs 91 and 303).

The juried Art and Craft Show features more than 160 artists. Admission is free. In addition to the arts and crafts, patrons may dine in a sheltered dining area choosing from various food concessions and enjoy live entertainment. Due to the crowds, close proximity of booths, and safety, patrons are asked to refrain from bringing pets to the show.

 

Sept. 2

The Lee Bishop Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. at the Hudson American Legion, 5790 Hudson Dr. Installation of 2009-2010 officers will take place. The representative to Buckeye Girls State from Hudson will share her experiences with the unit members.

 

Sept. 3

The Hudson Community Service Association will resume their monthly meetings on the first Thursday of every month at the Barlow Community Center at 7:30 p.m. All organizations, churches and schools are encouraged to send a representative. An update on the Holiday Lighting Fund will be reported by the committee. Anyone wishing to send a donation, may mail it to HCSA, Holiday Lighting, Box 284, Hudson 44236. If you are interested in learning about Angel Ministries, there will be a speaker on hand to explain this program.

 

Sept. 3

The Junior League of Akron, a nonprofit organization formed in 1926, includes members from Hudson, Kent, Peninsula, Richfield, Silver Lake, Stow, and Tallmadge. The League is committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women through training, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

A New Member Open House will be offered Sept. 3 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Anyone interested in learning about the league is welcome to attend. Call 330-836-4905 for more information and a location or visit the Web site at www.juniorleagueakron.org.

 

Sept. 29 through Nov. 4

The Hudson High School Music Association will sponsor its annual fruit fundraising sale. High school music students will sell fruit, candy and cheesecakes. Delivery is scheduled for Dec. 5. For more information, contact Joan Byers at 216-393-0474.

 

Oct. 3

The 49th Annual Parade of Bands will take place at 7 p.m. at Lavelli Field. The gates open at 6 p.m. Tickets will be $7 at the gate, or can be purchased at ACME, the Learned Owl of the Hudson High School office for $5. Twinsburg, Waterloo, Wadsworth, Southeast, Mogadore, Riverside, Kent and Hudson bands will participate.

Oct. 4

The 2nd Annual Hudson PTO Run for the Schools will take place Oct. 4. Hudson PTO will host two races — a 1-mile fun run and a 4-mile race. The entry fees are $20 for the 4-mile run and $10 for the 1-mile fun run. Ages 6 and under are free. All proceeds will benefit Hudson PTO’s School Grants and Scholarship Program. T-shirts and goody bags will be given to the first 200 participants. Volunteers are needed. To register, visit www.hudsonpto.org. Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25

The 3rd annual “Night 4 Pink” will take place at Downtown 140, 140 N. Main St. The evening, hosted by Downtown 140 owner Kurt Nygaard and his wife, Cindy, owner of “Vignettes,” includes wine, live entertainment (the local Mike Petrone Jazz Quartet) and food and desserts prepared by Downtown 140’s Executive Chef Sean Monday and Pastry Chef Kim Horner. The event also features donations from individuals and area businesses that will be auctioned off during the evening.

Nov. 1

The Fourth Annual What’s Cooking? Tasting Tour, sponsored by The Women’s Guild of St. Mary Parish, is slated from Noon to 4 p.m. in six beautifully appointed homes with six local chefs stationed in each kitchen.

The interactive format of the fund raiser offers ticket holders a feast for the eyes as well as the palate as they view the first floor of each home and chat with participating chefs while sampling the tasty tidbits offered.

Homes in Deer Hollow, Canterbury on the Lakes, Westin Manor, Hines Hill and Middleton Roads will showcase the talents of chefs from Bistro on Main, Blue Canyon, Downtown 140, North End Market, Reserve Inn and Vue. Chefs will be on hand to answer questions, discuss wine selection, and offer suggestions for entertaining and meal preparation.

Tickets are $45 and will be available at The Learned Owl and Acme Fresh Market the first week in September. This is an advance-ticket-only event, and no tickets will be sold on the day of the tour.

Tickets will be limited to 400. Directions to each home will be printed on the tickets. Proceeds from “What’s Cooking?” enable The Women’s Guild to support local, national and international charities focusing on women and children in need as part of its Mission of Outreach.

The tour has raised almost $50,000 in its first three years.

    [...] Hudson Monthly Editor Stephanie Fellenstein came home Thanksgiving to find an unexpected guest — this cute little kitten on her back steps. She thinks the kitten is around two months old and says it’s is very sweet, uses a litter box and likes dogs and other cats.
