The Buckeye Book Awards

From the Buckeye Children’s Book Award Council:

The Buckeye Children’s Book Award Council announces the nominees for the 2010 Buckeye Children’s Book Award and the 2010 Teen Buckeye Book Award.  The following titles were chosen in an online nomination process by young readers all across the state of Ohio .

For Grades K-2

  • Bringing In the New Year by Grace Lin (Knopf Books for Young Readers, 2008)
  • Duck! Rabbit by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld (Chronicle Books, 2009)
  • Mercy Watson: Something Wonky This Way Comes by Kate DiCamillo, ill. by Chris Van Dusen (Candlewick, 2009)
  • The Mitten by Jim Aylesworth, ill. by Barbara McClintock (Scholastic Press, 2009)
  • Rhyming Dust Bunnies by Jan Thomas ( Beach Lane Books, 2009)

For Grades 3-5

  • Flat Stanley’s Worldwide Adventures: The Mount Rushmore Calamity by Jeff Brown,

            ill. by Macky Pamintaun ( Harper Collins, 2009)

  • Hidden Ohio : A Search and Seek Book by Julie Rubini and Anne Margaret Lewis,

The Teen Buckeye Book Award nominees (for grades 9-12):

  • Death of Jayson Porter by Jaime Adoff (Hyperion/Jump At The Sun, 2008)
  • Just Another Hero by Sharon Draper (Antheneum, 2009)
  • Hunted: Whiteout by Walter Sorrells (Dutton Juvenile, 2009)
  • Ink Exchange (Wicked Lovely) by Melissa Marr ( Harper Collins, 2008)
  • Tempted (House of Night Novels) by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast (St. Martin’s Griffin , 2009)

 

To be eligible for nomination, a book must have been written by an American author and published in either 2008 or 2009.  Voting is open to any student in Ohio . Voting will start Sept. 1 on the BCBA website: www.bcbookaward.info and the TBBA website: www.bcbookaward.info/teens . The deadline for voting is Nov. 10, and the winners will be announced on December 1, 2010.
