Tales from the Road
by Neil Zurcher
Gray & Co. Publishers
Thousands of people recall Neil Zurcher as “The Travelin’ Man” or “Mr. One Tank Trip,” but his Cleveland television career goes back much further than his “One Tank Trips” segments.
For 40 years, he appeared on WJW Channel 8 — now Fox 8 — first as a reporter and then motoring through Ohio and surrounding states exposing viewers to interesting people and places.
He covered many major stories in the early part of his career. He was tear-gassed at an anti-war rally, survived a tornado and was nearly trapped in the Ohio Penitentiary during a riot.
In this latest book — he’s also written “Ohio Road Trips,” “Ohio Oddities” and “Strange Tales from Ohio” — he recalls exciting moments from his lengthy reporting and traveling days.
He even goes back to his younger years growing up in the 1940s in Henrietta Township southwest of Amherst in Lorain County, where he worked at his dad’s service station/store.
Those who watched Neil on TV all those years will enjoy reading this book.
