NEW 2007 Building, Mechanical, & Plumbing Codes Effective July 1

A heads up for all of you builders:

NEW 2007 Building, Mechanical, & Plumbing Codes Effective July 1, 2007

The Ohio Board of Building Standards is adopting new Building, Mechanical, and Plumbing Codes effective July 1, 2007. The new Building code is the 2007 OBC, the new Mechanical code is the 2007 OMC, and the new Plumbing code is the 2007 OPC. The new “Ohio” codes are all based on the ICC 2006 model codes. The new code books are available from ICC by calling 1-888-422-7233 or at Thompson/West Law Publishing by calling 1-800-328-9352.

The new building codes are effective on July 1, and no grace period is being allowed for designers to choose between the 2005 and the new 2007 codes. Designers and submitters are encouraged to transition to the new requirements quickly; any questions on which requirements are to be used should be discussed with the building official for jurisdiction having authority.

The Ohio Design Professionals and Code Analysts will be providing there (10) week Comprehensive Study courses beginning July 11, 2007. Week (2) will provide a (3) hour update on the primary changes to the 2007 OBC from the 2005 OBC.
