In 1943 I was in the sixth grade at Smithville Elementary School. The sixth grade scheduled a field trip to observe practices of birds and bees. Sixth grade students that bought their lunch were instructed to brown-bag their lunch or go hungry.
That morning a bully that was 2 or 3 years older than I got on the bus with 5 or 6 empty seats; sat on my brown-bag and squashed my orange into my sandwich.
I immediately dealt with this bullies lack of respect for others.

At school the principal came to the sixth grade; pointed at me; and motioned for me to come with him to the principal’s office.
He asked a few questions about my dealing with this bully. I gave him honest answers that were not in my best interest.
