COLUMBUS— On the fifth anniversary of the law that prohibits convicted sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of a school, State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) and State Representative Jimmy Stewart (R-Albany) today announced that they will be introducing companion legislation in the Ohio Senate and House to ensure that the law applies uniformly to all sex offenders.

Here’s a statement from Senate President Bill Harris, a Republican from Ashland, on the topic, in response to a letter released by Gov. Ted Strickland yesterday urging cooperative on a compromise:

From Ohio EPA:
 
TEPPCO has agreed to pay $11,020 to Ohio EPA for not adhering to Ohio’s air pollution control regulations at its Coshocton County facility (48963 County Road 275, Coshocton). The company owns and operates a wholesale propane terminal. Its facility receives propane from an underground pipeline and stores propane for delivery to propane wholesale customers.

Here’s a summary:
Based on the evidence submitted to the secretary of state as verified by the evidence introduced in this case, the committee has not established that the secretary abused her discretion in rejecting the committee’s recommendation to appoint Wipert to the board of elections.  That evidence included Wipert’s engaging in partisan political activity while serving as the board’s director, correcting petitions after they had been filed with the board, and being fired by the same board for which she sought membership.  …
